چکیده
The increasing concerns regarding climate change and depletion of raw materials motivate governments to intensify their actions towards a cleaner energy matrix, independent fossil fuels, more sustainable material supply chain. In this context, municipal solid waste (MSW) is major interest, considering it contains variety potentially valuable materials, such as biomass (e.g. food green waste) recyclables plastics, glass, mineral fractions, etc.). However, when suitable local infrastructure for the separation these does not exist, MSW usually discarded in landfills or thermally treated. Often, thermal treatment involves transportation over long distances. objective work was develop pilot mechanical pretreatment system (fraction <12 mm) into substrate rich biodegradable valorization. developed consists sieving step followed by mixing unit, which produces suspension be fed hydrocyclone. impurity efficiency hydrocyclone evaluated different total solids (TS) volume flows (VF). For practical applications, TS 9% VF 10 m³/h presented optimal arrangement removal. addition, after passing MSW-derived through three times, possible increase concentration from 40% 65% TS. removed impurities consisted 90% minerals, glass metals, presenting potential further processing extraction secondary prior landfilling. specific electricity demand proposed wet estimated at 3.2 kWh/t mm processed.

Degradation of Biodegradable/Degradable Plastics in Municipal Solid-Waste Landfill
This paper provides information about biodegradability of biodegradable/degradable materials advertised as 100%-degradable or certified as compostable in a municipal solid-waste landfill. It describes a 12month experiment with five samples that took place in a landfill. The results, demonstrated that the polyethylene sample with the additive (samples 1) and sample labelled as 100% degradable (s...
متن کاملAutothermal Drying of Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste
In order to take advantage of heat released during composting, the autothermal drying process requires the maintenance of adequate air flow combined with temperature. The aim of this paper was to construct a drying tunnel enabling the automatic control and regulation of the basic process parameters for biomass drying (organic fraction of municipal solid waste together with plant structural mate...
متن کاملAssessment of the environmental impact of management measures for the biodegradable fraction of municipal solid waste in São Paulo City.
There is increasing concern about landfilling of biodegradable wastes. Therefore, biological treatment processes such as composting and biogasification have been considered as alternative strategies for managing those wastes. In this work, life cycle assessment was employed to compare the environmental impacts of landfilling, composting, and biological treatment of municipal solid waste in São ...
متن کاملCalorific and greenhouse gas emission in municipal solid waste treatment using biodrying
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Urban intensity and activities produce a large amount of biodegradable municipal solid waste. Therefore, biodrying processing was adopted to ensure the conversion into Refuse Derived Fuel and greenhouse gases. METHODS: This study was performed at a greenhouse, using six biodrying reactors made from acrylic material, and equipped...
